What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a registered primary healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculo-skeletal system (bones, joints and muscles) as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health.
In the UK Chiropractors undergo a minimum of four years full time training. Importantly, Chiropractors are regulated by law and must work within strict professional and ethical boundaries.
Your first visit to Amanda our Chiropractor
When you see Amanda for the first time she will make a detailed assessment of your health. During the case history you will be asked for information about your current condition and also about your medical history and overall health. Amanda will then perform a physical examination. This usually comprises a range of tests that may include posture and range of movement as well as orthopaedic and neurological testing. Occasionally further evaluation such as MRI scans; x-rays or blood tests are recommended. If these are required your Amanda will explain why they are necessary and how and when they will be arranged.
Following this initial assessment Amanda will explain what is wrong and if she feels Chiropractic treatment will help. She will give you a care plan which explains what you can expect when receiving chiropractic care.
Chiropractors are trained in using manipulation to free stiff or restricted joints. This involves using their hands to apply quick precise thrusts to the restricted joints. Treatment may include massage, stretching and gradual moving of the joints (mobilization).
Self-help activities and rehabilitation care form an important part of Chiropractic treatment. You will be given advice on how to manage your condition and prevent it from recurring. This may involve the application of ice or heat to relieve pain and inflammation, and advice on activity, posture and exercises that you can do at home. Throughout the course of your care, Amanda will be able to answer any questions you might have about the management of your condition and your treatment.
Amanda is highly trained and highly skilled, and has years of experience in offering chiropractic care. She is always happy to help with any questions you may have regarding Chiropractic treatment and your care.
